AMI is pleased and honoured that Australia’s Ambassador to Myanmar will join the seminar and say a few words at the outset.

Dr Khin Zaw Win is the Director of the Tampadipa Institute in Yangon, and a human rights activist.  He was a political prisoner in the 90s, and is now one of the most knowledgeable people in Myanmar on the directions of modern politics and nationalism. His work concentrates on policy advocacy and capacity-building.

Cheery Zahau is an internationally recognised Chin human rights activist.  Cheery is an advisor to the Chin National League for Democracy, a feminist, researcher and specialist in women’s political leadership. Cheery left Myanmar when she was 17 – she settled in India and formed the Women’s League of Chinland. Cheery is now based in Yangon.

Dr Michael Breen is a McKenzie Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Melbourne. Michael completed his PhD at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Michael’s research focuses on federalism in Asia, and the management of ethnic diversity. He is the author of ‘The Road to Federalism in Nepal, Myanmar and Sri Lanka: Finding the Middle Ground’ (2018, Routledge) and has participated in Nepal’s constitution-making process that established it as a federal democratic republic.
