Dinner with U Tin Htut Oo

We are very pleased that U Tin Htut Oo, a leading consultant on agribusiness and rural development in Myanmar, will be visiting Melbourne soon. He has agreed to join a small number of interested people for dinner on 23 August at 7 pm. It will be a self-funded event, at the Burmese House restaurant (303 Bridge Rd, Richmond).

If you wish to attend, please rsvp to May Kyel Winn (admin@aummi.edu.au) as soon as possible – places will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.

U Tin Htut Oo’s biography is as follows:

“U Tin Htut Oo rose through the Myanmar public service to become Deputy Secretary of Agricultural Planning during the Than Shwe military period. In 2012 he was selected by President Thein Sein (democratically elected in 2010) to be the Chairman of the National Economic and Social Advisory Council, which ran under the President’s Office during the previous government—as well as Chairman of the Center for Economic and Social Development of the Myanmar Development Resources Institute, also formed under the former the President’s Office. At the same time, he left the public service to start his own consultancy business, Agribusiness and Rural Development Consultants. Interestingly, in the last year or two he has participated in some of the meetings around Myanmar’s national peace dialogue process, which is attempting to negotiate an end to 19 armed insurgencies around the country, and end more than 7 decades of civil war. He main interests are in agricultural and rural policy, including the role of agricultural development in helping deliver a peace dividend. He is particularly interested in discussions on the theme of Myanmar agriculture and agribusiness, and potential investment cooperation with Australia.”
