Australia Myanmar Institute invites you to a scheduled Zoom meeting

Date: August 31, 2020 (Monday)

Duration: 1 hour

Time: 6:00-7:00 PM Australia/Melbourne Time (2:30-03:30 PM Myanmar/Yangon Time)

Meeting ID: 961 9575 8073

The speaker will be His Excellency U Tha Aung Nyun, Myanmar’s Ambassador to Australia since August 2016.  He is a distinguished foreign service officer, and served as Ambassador to Malaysia and then South Africa before taking up his Canberra appointment. In his time in Australia he has navigated Myanmar through a tumultuous period in Myanmar’s development.  He has also worked hard to support the needs of the Myanmar community in Australia, including the student population, and has rebuilt the relationship between the Embassy and those in the community.  At the seminar, he will discuss the work being done in Myanmar to contain the impact of the COVID-19 coronavirus, and will also speak about the Embassy’s work to support Myanmar nationals seeking to return to their homeland.

He has also been a friend to many Australians, and has been a keen supporter of AMI’s work with its Myanmar partners in support of Myanmar’s objectives under the UN Sustainable Goals.  He spoke briefly at the AMI seminar in February 2017 to introduce himself, and it’s a great honour for AMI to host him for his own presentation this month.

***NOTE: Zoom can work very well, but it poses difficulties for people with a poor internet connection. So, people from Myanmar (or elsewhere) who might have a poor internet connection or low bandwidth should turn off the video mode and listen to the seminar. You may be able to switch on the video from time to time just to see who is speaking, but definitely don’t use the video mode if you wish to speak yourself.  You should pose your questions using the chat function.  AMI will upload the whole seminar later on the AMI website and Facebook page.
