Myanmar studies get intensive
A one-day workshop for Early Career Researchers and Higher Degree by Research students
preceding the 2019 Myanmar Update

Outline
Capitalising on the presence at the Australian National University of leading and emerging country experts for the Myanmar Update 2019: Living with Myanmar (15-16 March), this one-day workshop will offer intensive instruction on researching, writing and talking about Myanmar today. Presenters in the Update will join academics from the ANU for a series of closed-door sessions with students and recent graduates that will bring some of the best scholars from Myanmar together with their counterparts in Australia and elsewhere. The sessions will address questions of data generation, publishing, scholarly activism and policy engagement on intense topics in tense times, with a view to the 2020s and beyond.
Eligibility
The workshop is open to all interested Early Career Researchers and Higher Degree by Research students (PhD and MPhil or equivalent) researching Myanmar. Anyone who has enrolled in but not yet begun a program of study is also eligible. Participation is limited to twenty places. Ten places are available for Myanmar nationals and ten places for non-Myanmar nationals. ANU PhD students and ECRs are especially encouraged to apply, as well as participants and attendees at the Update from other institutions in Australia and abroad.
Research grants
Four participants in the workshop will receive a grant of AU$1000 each to support their research on Myanmar. All participants in the workshop will be eligible to apply for the grants. Further details will be available on the day of the workshop.
