Professor Gordon Lister is currently a Honorary Professor at the WH Bryan Mining Geology Research Centre (BRC) at the Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI) at The University of Queensland. He qualified as a geologist in 1970 and with a PhD in Geophysics in 1975. His interest has always been the genesis of mountains, and his research has led him there, on many continents. He was awarded the Mawson Medal by the Australian Academy of Science in 2012. He has published on the genesis of giant megathrust earthquakes (Banda Aceh 2004, and Tohoku oki, in 2011).
He has explored the deep workings of the India-Asia collision, including building models as to how things look underneath Myanmar, right now, down to depths of several 100 km, and how things have evolved with time, from about one hundred million years in the past until the present moment.
Currently he explores the links between giant earthquakes and giant orebodies – which is one of the stranger aspects of “How the Earth Works”.
Dr Chit Ko Ko started his career in Australia as an Engineering Geologist, then moved on to another 11 jobs in various positions working for the mining companies and consulting firms, before retiring as a Geotechnical Engineer. He earned 4 degrees BSc, DAG, MAppSc & PhD.
He attained membership with the following organizations:
- Australia Geomechanics Society (AGS)
- Institute of Engineer, Australia (IE Aus)
- Australia Mining and Metallurgy Institute (Aus MMI), also gained a chartership in
Mining Geotechnical Engineering.
He authored/coauthored 12 published papers,10 papers related to his PhD research, which included 4 Journal papers. Chit involved in TV interviews with SKYNET Myanmar TV, presenting technical talks and interviews in several episodes. He authored 2 books, published for the Myanmar Public.
He is actively involved in holding talks through Seminars, giving lectures and educating fellow professionals and others in Myanmar, till present.
Chit’s dream is to keep on contributing to the society till his last breath. His actions were limited by Covid and Military coup. Regardless of those situations he keeps his dream alive.
