Moderator: Dr Ivo Burum, Coordinator, Media Industries, La Trobe University. A former television executive and current affairs producer, he is also known internationally as a mobile and digital consultant, and is the author of Mojo: the Mobile Journalism Handbook. Ivo ran the first mobile journalism workshops for Myanmar media companies.
Michael Sainsbury is a freelance journalist based in Asia with more than 20 years’ experience writing about business, politics and human rights across Australia and the Asia Pacific region. He is best known in the Myanmar context for his writing for crikey.com.au and UCAN (Union of Catholic Asian News).
Mark Baker is a former Senior Editor of The Age, editor of The Canberra Times and Managing Editor (National) of Fairfax Media. During 13 years as a foreign correspondent for Fairfax, News Corporation and The Financial Times he had postings in China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore and Papua New Guinea. He covered the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and was wounded while reporting the civil war on Bougainville in the early 1990s. He has also served as political editor and Canberra Bureau Chief of The Age. A former president of the Melbourne Press Club, he became the Club’s inaugural chief executive officer in February 2014. He had extensive experience with Myanmar when with Fairfax.
A question and answer session will be conducted after the talk.
