A year ago, violence spiralled out of control in Myanmar causing 671,500 Rohingya Muslims to flee to Bangladesh in a matter of months. Why? Did the army just drive these people out—is this a textbook example ethnic cleansing? Otherwise, what could possibly explain such a massive movement of people? What motivates and drives such horrific conflict? If we include those who had already fled, there are now 1.1 million Rohingya refugees living in Bangladesh. What are the prospects of their return? How should the international community respond, and what can we do about it?

This seminar includes the launch of Anthony Ware & Costas Laoutides’ new book Myanmar’s Rohingya Conflict (see https://www.hurstpublishers.com/book/myanmars-rohingya-conflict).  The seminar will address all these questions openly and point to detailed analysis of the issues in the book. The 3 discussants, who collectively have significant understanding across the situation, will respond to the presentation, to kick of a question and answer session with the audience.

Discount copies of the book will be available for sale.
